From 2014 to 2017, the NRL Auckland Nines lit up Eden Park with a fast-paced, festival-style take on rugby league. Hosted in partnership with Duco Events, the pre-season tournament featured all 16 NRL clubs, top-tier talent, and a $2.25 million prize pool. With shorter matches, nine-player sides, and wildcard plays, the Nines brought fans closer to the action—and each other. Women’s national teams also took centre stage, making it a true celebration of the sport. The Nines returned briefly in 2020 before being shelved, leaving behind a legacy of excitement, innovation, and unforgettable footy moments.
