About
Ryan Youens is a New Zealand-based composer, arranger and orchestrator with a diverse career spanning concert music, live events, recording projects and theatre. His work has been performed globally, from Australia and Europe to the Americas, Asia and the Middle East.
His charts have been performed by the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Sydney Symphony, London Metropolitan Orchestra, Budapest Scoring Orchestra, Dutch Radio Chamber Orchestra, Danish National Opera, Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia, and by artists including Alicia Keys, Neil Finn, Ria Hall, Tami Neilson and Dave Dobbyn. He has arranged for major international events such as the America’s Cup, Formula One and the opening of Sindalah Island in Neom.
In film and television, his orchestration and copying credits include The Hobbit trilogy (Song of the Lonely Mountain, The Last Goodbye), Ka Whawhai Tonu, Pike River, Happiness and Belief: The Possession of Janet Moses. He regularly collaborates with composers Victoria Kelly, Rhian Sheehan, Arli Liberman, Tiki Taane and Karl Steven.
A founding creative behind Synthony, Ryan began work on the first show in 2016. He serves as both music arranger – having created 200+ charts – and show director, ensuring each performance is delivered seamlessly and in line with Synthony’s creative vision.
